Sustainable Peace Foundation’s Qellayta Music Group for Diversity and Culture is a youth-led cultural ensemble rooted in the vision of Qellayta Youth Centre for Diversity and Culture in west Mosul created to make music a public bridge between people, not a private hobby for a few. It is a space where young women and men come together to rehearse, learn, and perform with a shared conviction: that Mosul’s recovery is not only about rebuilding streets and services, but also about restoring trust, dignity, and a sense of common belonging. The Group turns that conviction into something visible and heard transforming diversity from a slogan into a lived experience on stage.

What makes Qellayta Music Group for Diversity and Culture distinctive is both its artistic quality and its social message. The Group conducts regular performances in Mosul, and its presence now extends across Nineveh and beyond reaching audiences across Iraq. Through these ongoing performances, the Group has become increasingly recognised and celebrated as a symbol of youth creativity and inclusive cultural pride, offering communities moments of joy, reflection, and unity at a time when Iraq continues to navigate the legacies of conflict and division. Each performance is not just an event; it is a statement that young people can lead with beauty, discipline, and purpose carrying a message of coexistence that feels authentic because it is performed, not merely proclaimed.

At the heart of this celebration is the Group’s commitment to linguistic and cultural inclusion. Qellayta Music Group for Diversity and Culture performs in all Iraqi languages, honouring the country’s living mosaic and the communities that keep it alive. Its repertoire embraces Arabic, Kurdish, Turkmen, Shabbaki, and Assyrian also known as Syriac and Chaldean so that diverse audiences can hear themselves reflected with respect and pride. This multilingual approach does more than expand artistic variety: it affirms equal citizenship, recognises cultural rights, and creates an emotional connection across communities who too often meet through stereotypes rather than shared experience. When a single youth group can move fluently between Iraq’s languages on one stage, it models the Iraq many people want to live in plural, respectful, and confident in its diversity.

Qellayta Music Group for Diversity and Culture is also a platform for youth growth and resilience. Members develop musical skills through structured rehearsal and performance preparation, but they also build the qualities that sustain leadership and positive peace: teamwork, discipline, communication, confidence, and mutual accountability. The process of creating music together listening, harmonising, correcting, and improving becomes a practical form of social cohesion. It helps young people replace isolation with belonging, and tension with collaboration, while offering a constructive alternative to harmful narratives that thrive where hope and opportunity feel absent.

Ultimately, Qellayta Music Group for Diversity and Culture is a living celebration of Iraq’s cultural richness and a forward-looking investment in its social fabric. By bringing young people into the public cultural space performing regularly, travelling across districts and governorates, and singing Iraq’s languages with equal respect the Group keeps Mosul’s pluralistic heritage present in everyday life, while proving that youth-led arts can be a powerful engine for unity, pride, and resilience.
